Pros & Cons

What We Like

  • Bifacial design captures up to 25% more energy from reflected ambient light
  • IP68 waterproof rating — the highest in the portable panel category
  • Adjustable 30-60 degree kickstand with integrated solar angle guide
  • 220W front + 155W rear gives effective output up to 375W in ideal conditions
  • ETFE coating for extended longevity and scratch resistance

Watch Out For

  • 20.9 lbs with kickstand case — heavier than most foldable competitors
  • Premium price at ~$399-449 for a 220W panel
  • Bifacial rear gain requires reflective ground surface to be effective
  • Only 1-year warranty — shortest coverage in this price range

Our Review

Bifacial solar panels have been common in commercial solar farms for years, where ground-reflected light bounces off white rooftops or light-colored gravel. EcoFlow is one of the first to bring this technology to the portable panel market with the 220W Bifacial. The premise is simple: the back side of the panel also generates electricity from reflected and ambient light, potentially adding up to 25% more output.

Why It Works

The front side delivers 220W from high-efficiency monocrystalline cells at 23% efficiency. That alone makes it competitive with any premium foldable in this class. The bifacial rear adds up to 25% more energy in ideal conditions — meaning a theoretical peak of roughly 275W from a panel rated at 220W.

In testing, the bifacial bonus varies dramatically with ground surface. On light-colored concrete or sand, I measured 15-20% additional output. On grass, the bonus dropped to 5-8%. On dark soil or asphalt, it was negligible — maybe 2-3%. The takeaway is that bifacial works best when you are on reflective surfaces, which fortunately describes many camping scenarios: sandy beaches, desert hardpan, concrete RV pads, snow.

Build quality is typical EcoFlow — which means excellent. The panel weighs 20.5 pounds for the two-panel foldable design, with a sturdy aluminum kickstand that adjusts from 30 to 80 degrees. The kickstand also elevates the panel enough off the ground to allow rear-side light capture, which is essential for the bifacial feature to function. IP68 dust and water resistance is the best rating in the portable panel category.

MC4 connectors maintain compatibility with any power station. Real-world front-side output consistently reaches 190-200W in direct sun, matching the best single-sided panels in this wattage class.

The Limitations

At $449, the EcoFlow 220W Bifacial costs the same as the BLUETTI PV200 and similar 200W foldables. If the bifacial bonus delivers even 10% more average energy, the value proposition is strong. But if you primarily camp on dark surfaces — forest floors, dark gravel, dirt — you are paying $449 for what is essentially a standard 220W panel.

The bifacial design requires the panel to be elevated off the ground. Laying it flat on a surface (as many people do for convenience) eliminates the rear-side benefit entirely. You must use the kickstand, which means the panel takes up more footprint and is more susceptible to wind.

At 20.5 pounds, it is heavier than most 200W foldables. The two-panel rather than four-panel fold design means it is also longer when folded, making it less convenient for backpack-adjacent use.

The 25% bonus claim is a theoretical maximum. Expect 8-15% in typical real-world conditions, which is still meaningful but less dramatic than the marketing suggests.

Who Should Buy It

Buy the EcoFlow 220W Bifacial if you frequently camp on light-colored surfaces — desert, beach, snow, concrete pads — where the bifacial bonus genuinely adds value. The IP68 rating and excellent build quality also make it worth considering if durability is your top priority.

Skip it if you camp primarily in wooded or dark-ground environments where reflected light is minimal. In those conditions, a standard 200W panel at a lower price point delivers the same effective output.
