Our Review

If someone asks me what portable solar panel to buy first, I point them here. The Renogy 100W Foldable is not the most powerful, not the lightest, and not the most feature-rich. It is the one that makes the most sense for the most people.

Why It Works

At $150 and roughly $1.50 per watt, the Renogy 100W Foldable is aggressively priced for what you get. PERC monocrystalline cells deliver 22% efficiency, which is among the best in the foldable category. The integrated aluminum kickstand adjusts to multiple angles without separate stands or improvised rock-propping. It folds in half for transport and weighs 11.6 pounds — light enough to carry between campsites, heavy enough that a breeze will not flip it.

MC4 connectors mean this panel works with virtually every portable power station on the market. No proprietary cables, no adapters, no ecosystem lock-in. Plug it into an EcoFlow, a BLUETTI, a Jackery, or a standalone charge controller. It just works.

The IP65 rating provides solid dust and water resistance. I have left it out in light rain without issues. The operating temperature range of -4 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit is wider than most competitors, which matters for early-morning setups in cold climates and high-altitude camping.

In real-world testing, I consistently see 80-90W output in direct midday sun, dropping to 60-70W in hazy or partially cloudy conditions. That tracks with industry-standard derating, and Renogy’s numbers are honest.

The Limitations

A hundred watts charges a 500Wh power station in about 6-7 hours of good sun. For a weekend car camping trip, that is fine — set it up in the morning, have a full station by dinner. For extended off-grid stays or larger power stations (1,000Wh-plus), you will want two panels or a higher wattage option.

No built-in USB ports means you always need a power station or charge controller as an intermediary. The Goal Zero Nomad 50 offers direct USB charging, which is more convenient for ultralight setups. The 2-year warranty is shorter than Renogy’s own rigid panel warranty of 5 years, which feels inconsistent.

Compared to the Jackery SolarSaga 200, which offers double the wattage in a foldable form, the Renogy 100W makes sense for smaller power stations and budget-conscious buyers. The SolarSaga 200 costs roughly $400, so if you need more than 100W, you are spending significantly more.

Who Should Buy It

Buy the Renogy 100W Foldable if you are building your first portable solar setup, pairing it with a power station under 1,000Wh, or simply want a reliable panel that works with everything. It is the best value in portable solar, period.

Skip it if you need to charge large power stations quickly (look at 200W-plus panels) or if you want built-in USB for direct device charging without a power station. But for the vast majority of car campers, RV owners, and weekend off-gridders, this is the panel to start with. Buy it, learn with it, and upgrade later if your needs grow.
