I keep a power station in the cab of my truck for the same reason I keep a recovery strap and a 12V air compressor: things go wrong and I’d rather have the gear than not. The UDPOWER C400 is the first sub-$250 power station I’ve considered as a permanent passenger.

The unlock is the built-in jump-starter. Most “jump pack” units are batteries dedicated to that one job. The C400 is a 256Wh LiFePO4 power station with a 400-amp EC5 jump-start port grafted onto the side. You get phone charging, laptop charging, lights, and CPAP in the same case that also bails out your engine when the morning is cold and your alternator wasn’t.

The Jump-Start Port

The EC5 connector and 400-amp peak rating sit at the right tier for a 4- and 6-cylinder gas engine. I tested it on a 4.6L V8 truck that had been sitting through a winter cold snap and it cranked on the first attempt. UDPOWER rates it for diesel up to about 5L; I have not tested on a diesel.

The included jumper cables are stiff but functional. Storage takes up the lid of the case. After a jump start you should still have somewhere north of 80% of the 256Wh capacity left for normal device charging.

What 256Wh Powers (and Doesn’t)

Two AC outlets at 400W continuous handle most non-heating loads. In testing I ran:

  • 13” laptop at 30W for ~7 hours
  • CPAP without humidifier (35W) for a single full night, ~80% draw
  • LED lantern + phone + small Bluetooth speaker simultaneously for a weekend

The 800W surge handles a brief startup spike on small appliances (a 12V cooler compressor, a small drill), but the 400W continuous rating means you cannot run anything with a heating element — no coffee maker, no kettle, no electric blanket — for any length of time.

The 4,000-Cycle Number

UDPOWER rates the C400’s battery at 4,000 cycles to 80% capacity. That’s higher than the C200 (3,000 cycles) and the C600 (3,000 cycles). At one full cycle per day, that’s roughly a decade of daily use before the battery degrades to 80% of original capacity. For a $200 unit, that’s the most credible reason to choose this over a budget NMC competitor.

Fast Charging

Combining the included 100W AC adapter with a 65W USB-C input simultaneously pulls the C400 from empty to 80% in about 90 minutes. AC-only via the adapter is roughly 2 hours to full. Solar charging at 150W max is competitive for the capacity tier.

The Honest Limitations

The screen is small and shows percentage only — no live watt draw. There is no app. There is no expansion port. The single 18W USB-A is low compared to the 35W and 65W USB-C ports.

The C400 is a generation behind on connectivity by EcoFlow standards. What it has instead is a job — keep a daily-driver vehicle and a CPAP user functional through an outage or a frozen morning — and it does that job well.

Who Should Buy It

Buy it if you want a single piece of gear that handles small-device backup AND vehicle jump starts, your truck or car is your overlanding/camping base, or you want a sub-$250 LiFePO4 unit that can credibly serve 8-10 years.

Skip it if you need to run a refrigerator or heating element, you want app control and live monitoring, or you don’t need the jump-start feature. In that case the UDPOWER C600 at 596Wh is a better dollar spent.

The Bottom Line

The C400’s jump-starter is the differentiator, but the 4,000-cycle LiFePO4 chemistry and 5-year warranty are why I’d buy it. At $200 on sale it’s the most useful piece of redundant gear I’ve added to a vehicle kit in years.
