No plumbing, no tools, no installation. For the price, it is a compelling option if you understand what you are and are not getting.

What $250 Gets You

A three-stage filtration system: PP cotton pre-filter, carbon block filter, and an RO membrane. The unit removes TDS effectively — I have seen it take 300+ ppm tap water down to single digits, which is consistent with what other countertop RO systems achieve. The dispensing pitcher holds about half a gallon of purified water, and the source tank accepts about a gallon at a time.

The form factor is the standout. The Bluevua is smaller than the AquaTru, lighter, and genuinely portable. At around 11 pounds, you can move it between rooms, bring it to a rental cabin, or pack it for extended RV trips. The pitcher-style clean water reservoir detaches from the base, so you can pour directly or store it in the fridge. The design is practical in a way that the larger, boxier AquaTru is not.

Filter changes are simple and clearly indicated by a built-in TDS meter that shows you real-time water quality. When the numbers start creeping up, it is time to swap a filter. That kind of visibility removes the guesswork from maintenance.

Where the Budget Shows

The Bluevua lacks a post-filter carbon stage. In a four-stage RO system like the AquaTru, the post-filter polishes the taste after the water passes through the RO membrane. The Bluevua skips this, and while the water still tastes dramatically better than tap, side-by-side with the AquaTru there is a subtle difference in smoothness.

More importantly, the Bluevua does not carry NSF/ANSI certifications for specific contaminant removal. The manufacturer provides its own test data showing removal of lead, fluoride, chlorine, and other contaminants, but these are not third-party verified to NSF standards. If lab-certified contaminant removal is important to you — and for well water or areas with known contamination, it should be — the AquaTru’s certifications justify the price gap.

The wastewater ratio is less efficient than the AquaTru. Expect roughly a 1:3 ratio of purified to waste water, which means you are discarding more water per gallon of output. In an off-grid setting where water supply is limited, that matters.

Annual filter costs run about $60 to $80, which is lower than the AquaTru’s $100 to $130. Over three years, the total cost of ownership still favors the Bluevua by a meaningful margin.

Who Should Buy It

Buy the Bluevua RO100ROPOT if you want countertop RO water on a budget and your water source is municipal or otherwise reasonably clean. It is excellent for apartments, dorm rooms, and RV travel where portability and price matter more than certifications.

Skip it if you are filtering well water with known contamination issues or need the peace of mind that comes with NSF-certified removal claims. Spend the extra $200 on the AquaTru for that.
