Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best portable power station overall in 2026?
Our Editor's Choice is the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3, scoring 9.3/10. It combines strong capacity, fast charging, LiFePO4 longevity, and the best overall balance of power, portability, and value in our testing.
How many watt-hours do I need in a portable power station?
For basic camping (phone, lights, small fan), 500-1,000Wh is sufficient. For RV boondocking with a 12V fridge, plan for 1,000-2,000Wh. For whole-home emergency backup running a fridge, lights, and router, plan for 2,000Wh or more, ideally with expandability. See our sizing guide for a detailed calculation.
LiFePO4 vs lithium-ion: which battery type is better in a power station?
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is superior for most off-grid applications. It delivers 3,000-5,000 charge cycles vs 500-1,000 for standard lithium-ion, handles daily cycling for 8-10+ years, and is significantly more thermally stable. The only tradeoff is slightly more weight per watt-hour. Nearly every flagship power station has switched to LiFePO4.
Can a portable power station run a refrigerator?
Yes. A typical home fridge draws 100-200W continuously with 800-1,200W compressor startup surges. You need at least 1,500W continuous output and 2,000W+ surge capacity. For overnight use (~8 hours), plan for at least 1,500Wh of capacity. The award winners in this guide all meet that bar.
How did you test and rank these power stations?
Every power station in this roundup was scored across five criteria: power output and surge handling, portability (weight and form factor), value (cost per Wh), features (app, ports, expandability), and build quality. The overall score is a weighted average. Read our methodology page for the full scoring rubric.
